BEHIND THE SCENES IN 2011 - ENGAGEMENT SESSION EDITION - Vancouver Wedding Photographer

Well it’s the last day of January and I can NOT believe a whole month of 2012 has already gone by.  So, even though I may be a tad late I thought now might be an appropriate time to show you what we were up to in 2011.  I think this is going to be a three part series, showing behind the scenes of engagement shoots, weddings and some of our travels.  Hopefully you’re not sick of us by the end of the week :)  Here it goes, lets set sail with…

This was our fun engagement session with Florence and Ryan where I was work my ab stablizers and trying hard not to fall in the water.   That little jetty of a dock was soooooooooo wobbly.  luckily I never fell in.

This is Scott hanging out on his own wobbly jetty of a dock trying to catch a shot in case I did fall in.  Just kidding, he just kept telling me not to fall in :)

This AWESOME engagement session hasn’t been blogged yet (don’t worry it will be) and was epic since we were shooting on the roof of a building in downtown Vancouver.  Huh, another place where I had to make sure I didn’t fall off… I might need to pay more attention to where I take my couples (although this was their awesome idea.

Ha!  Seems to be in these shots I could be telling my couples not to fall off.  I’m starting to sense a very unplanned theme in this post.  Although, I do hold my couples up very high in my books :P

Oh, my goodness, this is so not planned.  here is ANOTHER shot of us trying NOT to fall off.  This is getting weird.  But I guess this is to show you more of the fun we got up to.  We all had to cross this little log where the water was definitely deeper than it looks.  Luckily we have great couples who don’t mind taking risks to get to good shooting locations.  And again, I didn’t fall in.

I just think this shot is funny.  I have no idea what I’m saying here but I have a feeling perhaps Nathan is a little unsure of what I’m telling him and Joanna.  He’s such a good guy.

And okay, seems everyone has their feet firmly on firm ground.  But what’s more fun than running through a field of tall grass?!  These two are so cute.  Seems I discovered I have slight allergies this spring.

More cozy shots with Priscilla and Ben.

And other highlights of the season was from our session at the Aquarium (also still to be blogged) but I had the bonus of making friends with a butterfly while shooting.  And the image on the right is NOT from an engagement session but this little family session was so fun.  And when I found the shot Scott got of me with a bear on my head, well, I thought you guys might want to know what you are getting yourselves into with my crazy self - fun times, fun times!

Thanks to all of our great couples (and families).  We had so much fun just hanging out and getting to know you during your e-sessions.  Thanks for trusting us to take you to all sorts of dangerous places.  Hee Hee.

A pink ruffly skirt and a kitty cat - Vancouver Family Photographer

Oh geez… kids these days… they are ADORABLE!!! Meet this tiny litte beauty!  She is just an absolute ball of joy, and a non-stop moving one at that.  I just couldn’t get enough of her little smile, her giggles, this cute little skirt, that sunglasses wearing cat or the headband.  Although, there were wardrobe malfunctions with the headband and then trying to put it back on a moving one year old was tough.  In any case, happy Friday and I hope you enjoy this little doll.

Little Boy Blue - Vancouver Family Photographer

Man this little guy is adorable.  Check out those smiles :)  You may remember the fabulous Stephanie and Jody whose wedding we shot in spring 2009.  Well, here’s the new love of their lives.  SOOOOOOOOOO DARN CUTE!!!  He’s got the best little laugh ever.  Just wanted to share him with you.

Love on the Island - Vancouver Island Wedding Photographer

Last month we stopped over on Vancouver Island to visit some family.  Family that we love.  Family that is full of love.  Family that is in love.  These photos aren’t from a wedding, from an engagement shoot or really any special day in particular.  They are just from a place of joy - and I love them.  This is a reminder though, how many of you have photos together other than just your wedding or engagement photos?  Have you thought of anniversary photos or about having a session just-because you’re in love? Or, are there people in your life, such as grandparents, parents, relative, friends, who are wonderfully in love and need photos together.  Don’t wait.  Celebrate your love and joy.  Contact me if you’re interested at jenn@jennbest.ca

In any case, I just wanted to share this beautiful and adorable couple…. so in love.

A Beautiful Canadian and her Aussie Husband - Vancouver Portrait Photographer

I feel very lucky in my life, for many many reasons.  One of them being for the amazingly beautiful people I have in my life.  Those whose hearts are open to life and love and who in all things there is genuine care and support for what happens to us.  One of these amazing people is this beautiful friend.  She happens to now live a long way from me and though we haven’t seen each other in three years it always feels like no time has passed.  This is often how I define a great friend, one with whom, no matter how much time has passed, you can just pick up again and chat and chat and chat.  Well, anyway, I can go on and on.  All I want to do now is share these beautiful pictures of her.  One thing that always astounds me is how women don’t think they are beautiful.  I have had the privilege of working with so many beautiful women and they all become incredibly self-conscious about themselves in front of the camera.  And then when I tell them, with all my heart, they are stunning - they don’t believe me.  This will be leading me to a new project soon so hold on for that.  But for now, isn’t she beautiful!  Thanks Jess for being so great!  Oh, and I’m also glad to say that the cute guy in the leather jacket, her hubby, loves Canada and had another awesome visit.

HOLIDAY HOURS

Well it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in the Best household.  The tree is up (although this fresh cut tree does not smell like a tree anymore… do not get me started on how irritating that is), the decorations are on, the sparkles are out and the stockings are hung.

I just wanted to let you know that this week we will be working reduced holiday hours so we may not be as available by email or phone.  We of course are finishing up holiday orders still this week and those waiting for your albums to come, don’t panic - we will of course contact you as soon as they arrive.

As of this Saturday, December 18th the office will officially be closed until early January.  We will be out of the office in January so expect to hear back from us sometime in the New year, most likely mid January.

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone.  Enjoy eating yourselves silly and drinking yourselves merry.

CHANDRA + JEFF - Part 1 - The Indian Wedding: Richmond Oval + Riverside Banquet Hall

So let me share a recipe for a great wedding (or in this case 2 days of weddings).  Start with two AHHH-MAZING PEOPLE and add beautiful traditional Indian dress,  throw in a dash of amazing sunshine, killer light, stunning architecture, loving family and friends, a beautiful traditional ceremony and the ability to rock the photo session and you’re in for only half of this amazing wedding.

I really don’t know what to say about these two (in fact I keep re-writing this post, deleting it and re-writing it).  It’s not because I don’t have anything to say, in fact it’s the exact opposite - I have too much that I want to say.  I feel so lucky to have been a part of their wedding and just am soooooooo sooooooo happy for them.

I don’t know how to describe how awesome it was to watch someone you’ve known since elementary school marry his best friend.  I think the surreal-ness of it all really kept hitting me.  That and the feeling that we really are all grown up now (or at least are supposed to be).

So I’m not even going to try and describe it… I’m just going to share some images from their beautiful Indian ceremony and photo session.  Here’s to an amazing Day 1 (and did I mention the LIGHT - Oh, having a moment again about the light - love it).

AUBREY + EDWARD - Steveston Engagement Session

So the Vancouver weather lately has been driving me a bit crazy - it doesn’t seem to grasp that it’s summer and it’s supposed to be nice out ALL THE TIME.  Luckily, when it came to shooting Aubrey + Edwards session in Steveston Last week we got lucky with some beautiful and somewhat unique weather.  One of those nights where it can’t quite decide if it want’s to be sunny or cloudy but is peaceful, tranquil and warm nonetheless.  And I think it was perfect weather for this couple.  These two are no doubt full of laughs and are super goofy and fun and definitely know how to poke fun at each other, but they are also so soulful and peaceful.  It was a pleasure being able to document their love and lives in the town where they live.  Thanks guys for having us along and sharing who you are with us.  Here are just a few fav shots, especially of Aubrey’s bling - love the ring on the straw - that’s how Edward proposed; and the shot in the ‘chicks’n'hens is one of my fav ring shots ever :)  Oh, and isn’t Aubrey just stunningly beautiful.  The last two shots made me feel like I was shooting for an Anthropologie catalogue - LOVED IT.  Enjoy!

TWO CUTIES! Twin Baby Boys - Vancouver Kids Photographer

So yesterday I got an awesome surprise when one of my best friends popped by with her twin boys. She and her boys totally made my day.  THEY ARE SO CUTE!!! I just have to a share a few from their impromptu photo session.  ENJOY THE CUTENESS and THE LONG WEEKEND!!!

Not much is cuter than sleeping babies…

… although when they smile in their sleep… IT’S ADORABLE !

The boys were peaceful together for a few minutes…

until… POW!  :)
