A Rooftop Vancouver Engagement Session - Amanda + Rob - THE WESTIN BAYSHORE

It’s officially spring here in Vancouver (although, at this moment you wouldn’t really know it).  The sun that came out today has been replaced by a downpour of rain - although this is pretty typical for Vancouver.  Rain, Rain, Rain - all the time.  The good thing though is that lots of rain means lots of green trees and pretty flowers.

The best part of spring is that it brings lots of ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS!!! HOORAY!!! We are totally looking forward to all of our awesome engagement sessions for this year and realized that we are really behind on blogging some pretty awesome engagements session that have happened over the past season.

To start off the spring engagement session bloganza we’ll start with one of our most epic ones to date - the engagement session of Amanda + Rob.

When it comes to choosing locations we always start with our couples.  We work with them and find out about their lives, jobs, passions, shared experiences, travels, etc to come with an idea that is all about them and hopefully a bit unique.  Well, when it comes to unique - how about the rooftop of the Westin Bayshore at sunset!!! Oh, and for fun, let’s through in the premiere International Suite too!  Sounds pretty cool to me.  Of course it helps when the groom works at this amazing hotel.  And a big big big shout out to the Westin hotels and resorts - they are one of our fave hotel chains and have THE MOST COMFORTABLE BEDS EVER!!!!

So without further ado…

Amanda and Rob are just totally awesome!  We first met them a few years back at the wedding of Chandra + Jeff because Amanda is Chandra’s sister.  You know us, we love getting to know families and being able to shoot Amanda and Rob’s wedding was super special.  Amanda and Rob are all about having a great time in life and want to take as much time as they can to pursue their passions like travelling and photography.  Amanda is also a fellow photographer who is working hard at building her business - can’t wait to see what this amazing girl does.  You can check out her facebook page here.

Anyway… we had an amazing time with these two at their session and at their amazing two day wedding.

I also found out that I’m a tad scared of heights.  Due to safety regulations none of us could get very close to the edge - and thank goodness because my poor little heart wouldn’t be able to handle that.  But check out a few shots of these two totally working it!!!  Thanks again guys for such an epic session!

FLORENCE + RYAN - Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club - Vancouver Wedding Photographer

Florence + Ryan were married last year on a GORGEOUS GORGEOUS Sunny summer day.  I remember it being stinkin’ hot.  Luckily it didn’t phase these guys one bit.   And the bridesmaids were even nice enough to ensure the guys had some ice cream in the morning - happened to be garlic ice cream and happened to be during the games in the morning where the groom and his groomsmen have to prove their worth to win the bride… but still… icecream.  There were a lot of things that I loved about this day.  Mostly Florence and Ryan but also beautiful light, gorgeous willows, wind blowing the girls hair, beautiful classic architecture and lots of smiles and laughter.  The reception was definately full of laughter and lots of singing and also lots and lots of happy tears :)  So sweet to see how much love there was for this couple.  Especially when it comes from younger brother.  Thanks Florence and Ryan for being GORGEOUS And for having us along for your day.  And thank you to Jen and Andrew (whom we adore) for recommending us to this fabulous couple.

One thing I remember from this wedding, which had nothing to do with Florence and Ryan but entirely to do with me… was RIGHT as the bride was walking down the aisle… I GOT STUNG BY A BEE!!!! ARGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! so painful!!!! and such bad timing.  The dang bee must have been sitting on my lens and when I grabbed it to rotate to zoom, STING! STUNG! STANG!!! right on my finger… right when the bride was walking down the aisle.  I had to remember not to scream and TO KEEP SHOOTING!!! My goodness it hurt.  I managed to keep shooting while all the precious moments happend and then dissappear to the back of the guests when the priest started the ceremony and make sure the darn thing was gone.  luckily my self pity and the pain went away and we rocked out the rest of the wedding… but note to self, WATCH OUT FOR BEES on your lenses :P

Okay, now on to the pretty photos.

BERNELLE + WILL : Fairmont Hotel Vancouver + Kirin Starlight Casino

There were so many things that I loved about this wedding.  All of the amazing details being one of them; who knew orange and blue details looked so amazingly fabulous together.  Everything from the bride’s and bridesmaid’s accessories, to the guys accessories to the flowers and to the stunning decor at the ceremony were just gorgeous. I wish I could have an aisle of glowing cherry blossom trees in my house everyday :)   Bernelle looked stunning in her Allure gown from Lisa’s Bridal.  Her blue Nina shoes and stunning hair pieces handmade by her aunt were the best accessories.  The guys looked pretty good too and I just loved their ties and pocket squares.  I loved that the groomsmen had blue accessories and Will’s were in Orange.  Such great creativity and coordination.  The amazing flowers were by Kathleen at Proline trading who always creates such colourful and joyful work.  Not only did I freak out over all the details but the photos we took at the Hotel Vancouver had me jumping up and down the staircase.  So much so that I choose one of my all time favourites shots to be the new ad for our latest wedluxe advertisement.  Thank you Bernelle for being so stunning.

But as much as I loved all the details I truly loved this couple.  I think I have a problem… I love all my couples. Bernelle and Will are just the nicest, sweetest, joyful people who really love and care for all their family and friends.  They really wanted to make sure that all of their guests were taken care of and enjoyed themselves and that’s exactly what happened.  Of course delicious food from Starlight Casino’s Kirin restaurant doesn’t hurt.

Enjoy some of my favourite images from the day.  Oh, and be sure to pick up the latest Wedluxe to see Bernelle in her gorgeous ad.

ANDREA + MIKE - Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club Wedding

This day was full of so many beautiful things - I just loved it!  Purple Badgley Mishka’s, gorgeous flowers, gorgeous photos at the Fairmont Pacific Rim and Gastown, purple orchids everywhere (I LOVE MOKARA ORCHIDS) - they even did this cute thing where they put a purple mokara orchid at every place setting and then ladies started wearing them in their hair - LOVED IT!!!  And of course, we cannot forget one amazingly gorgeous bride :)  Andrea and Mike were very special to us.  We kicked it off right from the start but it wasn’t until the wedding day that I figured out that Mike is a dead ringer for Scott’s youngest brother.  No wonder we had so much fun with the guy.  He was like a long lost best brother - he’d fit right in :)  Their wedding party and families were some of the sweetest people that we could not have asked for a better day at the Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.  Thanks Andrea and Mike for having us, we hope Australia is treating you well :)

JOANNA + NATHAN - COASTAL CHURCH + TERMINAL CITY CLUB WEDDING

This was a special wedding.  Full of people we love :)  The amount of love everyone has for this couple is simply amazing.  We could see how special they were to everyone.  And it’s easy to know why, Jo and Nathan have huge huge hearts; for each other and for all the people in their lives.  They were two of the most relaxed and easy going people we’ve had the pleasure of working with.  But really, they were just so happy to be marrying each other.  The day was full of beautiful details all inspired by Jo’s favourite colour purple, from dresses to flowers to adorable clutch purses and even a great pair of purple raybans that were a gift from one of her besties.  The night was full full full of laughter - seriously, I could  barely control myself with this croud, and some emotional tears as well.  But the joy was perfectly capped off with an amazing performance by one of Joanna’s favourite singers, Jessie Farrell.

Jo and Nathan, Thank you so much for choosing Scott and I to come and share in this special day with you both.  You are amazing people.  And Jo - thanks for some of my fave shots - the one of you in the limo - so NEW YORK - and the one with the ladybug.  I kinda like all the rest too ;P  Enjoy a few faves.

CANADIAN FLORIST MAGAZINE - May Issue

Since it’s a dreary dark rainy day today I thought I’d share some fun news that has to do with gorgeous flowers to brighten up your Friday.  We would love to give a huge Shout-out and Congratulations to talented florist Bronia Depedrina who we met while she was working at Posy here in North Van.  In the spring she called us up to photograph an amazing collection of floral work to be featured in a spring issue of CANADIAN FLORIST MAGAZINE. Her designs were B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L and I was in heaven photographing them all.  And our place smelled amazing while it was full of all these arrangements.  Her flowers were so amazing that she even landed the cover.  CONGRATS again Bronia.  So here’s a peak at the industry magazine.  Oh, and on a side note, see that gorgeous male model holding the tiered bridal bouquet… that’s Scott!  So yes, it’s official, I am married to a male model ;)

BEHIND THE SCENES OF A WEDLUXE EDITORIAL

We had so so so so so much fun on set of Wedluxe Magazine’s “A Champagne Wish” that we thought we’d share a few behind the scenes with everyone so you could see how the magic happens :)  Unfortunately these shots don’t nearly capture how much love and effort went in to this shoot by everyone who was involved, how much work went into the day of, how much fun we had, all the laughs, all the creative energy, all the tired bodies by the end of the day and how amazing our model was to work with… and… and… and… I think you get the picture.  Hope you enjoy!

When the day starts off with a gorgeous Rosewood Hotel Georgia room full of designer wedding gowns from Blush Bridal, Isabelle’s Bridal and Bisou Bridal … you know it’s going to be a good day.

Alicia and Angela definitely thought the shoes from Holt Renfrew were drool worthy :)

A bed full of GORGEOUS jewels including some from the fabulous Elsa Corsi, Jeweliette and Minichiello Jewellers *sigh*

The talented Evan Orion of FlowerZ working hard at setting up one of the sets.  And the lovely ladies of Alicia Keats Weddings and Events working hard at setting up the Champagne Tower.  Sweet girls, I think they ended up setting that thing up 7 times, set up, take down, move, set up, take down, adjust and on and on… but always with a smile on their face.

Then it was time for lights…

…camera…

…action!  We were all pretty excited about how gorgeous and fun our model was :)

Makeup touch ups by the talented Emily Cheng.  And Bruce of Cloud Nine Creative working hard on capturing the behind the scenes anticipation.

It really does take a village - there were a lot more people than this on set that day, everyone is all over the place.

Scott working hard helping with ladders and … *ahem*… helping with the beautiful cake from Anna Elizabeth Cakes

And near the end of the day everyone was definlately getting tired - even light testing and setting up shoes required resting your feet.

See you’re never too old for dress up - playing with shoes, dresses and make-up is still a girls dream :)

Angela, the fabulous editor extraordinaire herself, and I just couldn’t get enough of the gorgeousness

*Ahem* hot and talented guy pouring champagne :P

And the fabulous Alicia, who produced this spectacular shoot, making sure every detail was perfect.

RAJNI + BRANDON - Vancouver Wedding Photographer

Rajni + Brandon’s day was full of laughter, music and colour.  It was a wonderful blend of Indian and Western touches complete with an Indian ceremony and a western reception, two outfits and two photo times - gotta love that.  Both families were just filled to the brim with love for these two and there were soooooo many heartfelt and joyful moments through out the day.  These two are so in love and this day really was a celebration of their relationship.  It was such an honour to have been there with them and for them and to get the know their wonderful families.  Scott and I always have so much emotion for our couples families, we both have big families and we always feel welcome.  Thanks Rajni + Brandon for trusting us to to do our thing and for being so open with your amazing love.  Oh, and did I mention that these two really really know how to work it for the camera…

PRISCILLA + BEN: Jericho Beach & UBC Engagement Photos - Vancouver Wedding Photographer

Priscilla + Ben are high school sweethearts!  They are both incredibly dedicated and humble people with huge hearts.  They love watching movies and going on vacations together.  The love to eat out and also have a soft spot for Reese pieces and Peanut Butter Daisies.  Ben is athletic and loves animals and Priscilla is super stylish and loves hanging out with her family and friends.  They got engaged on the beach in Mexico and will be tying the knot at the end of July here in Vancouver.  I also have to add that the way Ben is with Priscilla is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.  He is so devoted to her and just looks at her with eyes overfilling with love.

As a side note, we shot down at Jericho beach and I never knew there were bunnies down there - TONS of them.  A fun addition to this animal lover’s engagement session :)

Enjoy some of my favourite images from their session - there are a lot.

THIS IMAGE TAKES MY BREATH AWAY!!! possibly one of my MOST FAVOURITE images ever.  I love the love here *sigh* just perfection!
