MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Well, it’s official - Here in Vancouver we are having a WHITE CHRISTMAS.  We’ve had two snow storms in the last week which is nuts because it’s pretty rare to have this much snow in the city.  We usually get a bit, then it rains and turns to slush and goes away.  But nope, we’re in an arctic cold snap and so far the snow just keeps adding up.  We are even setting new records for the amount of snow on the ground for this christmas, beating out the old record from the 60’s.  I haven’t officially measured yet, but there is at least 1.5 - 2 feet of snow on our deck - It’s crazy.  It does look pretty though.

I wish everyone a happy holiday season and hope that everyone stays safe as they make their way to events, parties and dinners - All my best!

This is what the mountains looked like yesterday befor todays storm moved in

This is what it looks like today - now there’s even more coming down - yikes!

(notice the mountains are missing)

The Wong Family

Well I did it- the last session for 2008 was on Saturday and went to the amazing Wong Family. This family was a lot of fun and I think we laughed almost the whole way through. Little Madeline is super sweet (and squirmy) but she sure entertained me the whole time I was there. And yet again I have fallen in love with more little girl clothes, toys, etc. I especially LOVED Madeline’s little yellow room - so cute :) Thank you Wong Family for such a great shoot and for having such great friends. Enjoy these few favourites as a sneak peek.

Hoo Family

Generally I don’t look forward to a session that may be rained out, but for some reason I didn’t care if it got a little wet for this one - I had a good feeling about it.  Truth is I’ve been eager to have a shoot that has a fun umbrella in it and the Hoo family didn’t dissapoint.  Watching little Stephanie walk around in her red coat and yellow umbrella is one of the highlights of the year - she is sooooooooooo darn cute!  The session was super fun and this family just oozes love and admiration for each other, their gentleness and sincerity is really sweet.  I’m still working on their session but couldn’t help but share this collage of some of my favs from the first half of the session.  Thanks for the “walkie walkie” Hoo family - Enjoy!

The Seaturtle

Okay, so I’m going to start these Maui posts with one of my favourite things: swimming with seaturtles.  Now on previous trips we’ve seen many turtles, at once or at different places but on this trip we didn’t do our usual amount of exploring,  we just spent a lot of time hanging out at the hotel.  The Sheraton Maui is located right on Black Rock at Kaanapali beach and there just so happened to be one seaturtle that hung out really close to shore (at least we think it was the same turtle).  We heard other people say they saw more turtles, a whole family even, but we just kept seeing this lone turtle hanging out near shore.  We saw this guy (or girl but I’ll call him a guy because he reminds me of the Turtle from Finding Nemo - “Duuuuudde“) quite a few times while snorkeling off the beach and each time I followed him and followed him and followed him and… you get the picture.  One day he just pretty much hung out on the bottom of the ocean, didn’t do a whole lot.  Another day he was swimming all over the place looking at the people hoping someone would feed him (even though you’re not supposed to, there were a few people feeding him seaweed and so he wasn’t afraid of people).  In any case I had a hard time moving on to snorkel elsewhere and always wanted to look for him again - he did have a good nack for suddenly dissapearing.  Anyway, I took a lot of pics of him underwater - they make good subjects those turtles, better than fish   They move through the water so gracefully, like they’re flying - it’s so pretty to watch.  Here are some of my favs as promised.

**EDITED TO ADD** I found out from a snorkeling magazine that this beautiful sea turtle is a she.  We can tell by her tail - it’s short.  Apparently male turtles have tails that extend past their back legs - no comment:) Anyway, I think we should give her a name - any suggestions?!

Note* these are all taken with my Canon Powershot SD750 in its underwater housing Canon WP-DC14.  There is minimal tweaking to the images: b&w conversion, bump in curves and vignetting added, no cropping and just slight saturation changes.  The pics are mostly straight out of the camera - just slightly improved for a little extra pop.

This one is my favourite shot - he really did swim that close to me.  In fact, at times I thought I would bump into him and had to make an effort to keep my distance.

Home from Maui

Aloha Everyone!

Well, I have to admit that I’m very, very sad today.  I love being home but I think I love Maui more.  I think I belong there and maybe I lived there in another life or something because I am going through serious withdrawl.  In anycase, Scott and I are home now and we had an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G time and one much needed vacation.  Please be patient with me as I get caught up from the week away.  I’m still sorting through emails and such, but I’ll get to all you lovely people soon.

There is of course the small matter of the, ah-hum, few photos I took while away - say oh, the 900 of them ;)  So, I won’t get to post as many as I thought right away as it will seriously be like editing a wedding while I go through all the pics.  The week went by so fast; I still can’t believe I took that many shots with my little point and shoot.  Of course, having an underwater case for it helped add to the photo mania - I think there are more photos underwater than above.  So, if you can bare with me I’ll do a series of posts from out trip over the next few weeks.  There are so many photos to share - and I HAVE to share them because I love this place so much that I can’t help but want to show you all.  There will be the post about the sea turtle, the snorkeling, the plants, the whale watching, the exploring, the hotel, etc, etc.  Ah, I’m sad again just thinking about it.  Oh, and there will have to be a post about Christmas in Hawaii because that was really weirding me out.  Anyway, for now here are a few teasers of some shots I Love.

Mahalo and Aloha!

This first one is one of my favs from the hotel - ah, palm trees!

Some of the amazing colour that comes from the beautiful plants and flowers

Amazing sunsets

These next two are two of my all time favourite Hawaii photos and in no way express the amazingness of swimming along side these amazing creatures.  Wait till you see his full post.

ALOHA!!!
